Bernice D. M. Fretz, 79, formerly of 2 Orchard Lane, Danville, Ind., and who had been a resident of Covington Manor Nursing Center, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill. at 9:38 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29.. She had been hospitalized the past 17 days. She was born in Chicago, Feb. 17, 1907, the daughter of Amos and Edna Carlson Crow. She formerly lived in Attica, Lafayette and Mulberry and resided in Danville, Ind. the past 33 years. She attended Attica schools and worked as a seamstress at Reifers Furniture drapery department, Lafayette, and was also a housewife. She was a member of Attica United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose 1812 of Danville, Ind. She was married June 21, 1930, in Mellott, to Howard F. Fretz, who preceded her in death Feb. 20, 1978. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Gale (LaDonna) Helms, Route 4, Veedersburg; one sister Mrs. Paul (Glenna) Hamilton, Indianapolis; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Monday at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with the Rev. Jerry McCune officiating. Burial was in Union Christian Cemetery. Gretchen Dickson sang the Lord's Prayer, accompanied by Sondra Raisor on the organ. Those who served as pallbearers were Phil Hamilton, Bob Dickson, Jeff Lane, Jim Kuiken, Paul Meyer and Bill Buckley.
